XRI for Agriculture
This Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Agribusiness (OMAFA) funded project is a proof of concept project to develop and test an innovative system to bring various field data together into a new information visualization and learning tool for farmers. The goal is to allow farmers to see multiple sources of information to help farmers see their fields in a virtual visualization system so that they may better understand soil characteristics, crop production, and environmental issues. Ideally, this will lead to more informed crop production and reduced environmental impacts. The visualization system will be a user-friendly decision-support tool to enhance existing agricultural practices through technology. It will enable farmers to make informed, data-driven decisions, optimizing their operations and resource management.
The Project objectives are:
To develop and test a proof-of-concept construction of an artificial intelligence, extended reality, and internet of things (XRI) system that integrates various geospatial agricultural and environmental data to significantly enhance farmers’ demonstration site experience;
For farmers to gain insight into soil characteristics and impact of crop production and environmental risks using this XRI system; and
To develop a new way of using agricultural data more effectively to inform and educate within the context of a demonstration field site.
Three activities are being conducted, for need-finding, design sprint with XR and AI, and testing. Follow us for more updates!
